My Why
About Tony Sera
I started to pursue Real Estate Investing 2010 after learning that my wife and I were going to become parents. Melanie and I have been self employed since 2003 as contractors building custom homes, drywall contracting and consulting for venture capitalists interested in (SIP's) Structural Insulated Panel construction. Because we didn't pay into unemployment insurance, maternity leave income wasn't available. Melanie and I worked a 70+ hour work week. I couldn't see how I could run our company and be a father without my business partner.
As a contractor I've seen a lot of success in real estate. What I've learned is the people that say real estate investing doesn't work or tell hard luck stories are the ones that started without any education and tried to fit it into their spare time. By treating real estate investing as a business we can influence our returns in any market condition. Our proven systems, world class research, and expert advisors are helping us create exceptional returns and great homes for our customers.
Before combining my education in real estate investment with our contracting expertise Michael Gerber (author of www.emyth.com) would have called me a "technician suffering from an entrepreneurial seizure" My business was running me. Sales went from $80,000 to 2 million and my wife and I were the only employees. Our company was growing too big too fast. It was fast paced and taking a toll. I couldn't find the staff I needed because the oil field soaked up competing labour resources. My stress and anxiety were evolving and I'm sure I was marching hard for a divorce followed by a heart attack.
By focusing more on building and construction management rather than on specialty contracting. Our business has become more scalable. By expanding into property management and consulting on real estate investment we have a greater capacity to have a positive affect on the lives of those we joint venture with, employ, and house. We redevelop homes to be safer, and use less energy. We make neighbourhoods better. We help people develop multiple streams of income so they are less dependant on their jobs and achieve higher and more reliable returns for their retirement savings. We support economic growth by employing people and providing housing at a lower cost.
Today I consider myself to be so much more than a technician. I am a seasoned business manager, CEO, and entrepreneur. My business has a greater purpose and has a positive impact on more people. My personal life has completely turned around. My relationships are strong. My health is great and mentally I am happy, resilient, and wise. I'm close to getting my pilots license so I can fly charity missions and be present for my family when they need me. My spare time is filled with church, trapshooting, flying, and family. Melanie and I are excited because our financial certainty will fund all our family adventures.
We could stop buying houses now and be completely satisfied with our investments but growing a business that creates generational income while sharing the profits with my friends and family is a legacy I can be very proud of.
I want to be remembered as a hero for my charity work, a role model to my children, and for helping others achieve their dreams by asking "How can I help you get what you want?"
